Team Warwick win the TCS Tech Challenge

A team of 5 University of Warwick student volunteers won this year’s TCS Tech Challenge at the finale on Wednesday 16th December in London. The TCS (Tata Consulting Services) Challenge pitches teams of students from 6 UK universities against each other in an 8 week real life consulting challenge. The teams, with the help of two TCS mentors, work with a charity local to their university to address an IT need identified by the charity.

Community Speaker Series - Celebrating British Black and Asian Shakespeareans

On Tuesday 8th December at 6pm, Dr.Jami Rogers provides a tour of the British Black and Asian Shakespeare Performance database. This new digital humanities resource documents nearly 1200 productions of Shakespeare in the UK since 1930. The increasing participation of minority ethnic performers in classical theatre in Britain is celebrated, as are some of the ground-breaking performances uncovered by this research. Warwick Arts Centre this Christmas

The Warwick Christmas Lectures are once again back at Warwick Arts Centre with fantastic new ideas, explosions, experiments and answers to questions taxing the University of Warwick’s finest minds. Tickets are still available for these spectacular session and are just £3.50 or free for schools (suitable for ages 8+).

Women of Warwick WI

The Women of Warwick WI group started in October 2014 and is one of very few workplace WIs across the country. They meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 5.15pm for a 5.30pm start until about 7pm, using various locations around the University.

Professor Christine Ennew Appointed as the next Provost of the University of Warwick

The University of Warwick’s Council has announced that it has appointed Professor Christine Ennew as Warwick’s next Provost. She currently serves as Provost and Chief Executive Officer of University of Nottingham’s Malaysia Campus, and also as a Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Marketing at the University of Nottingham.

New WMG Academy for Young Engineers in Solihull receives £1.1m to tool up young engineers

Just as building work on a second WMG Academy for Young Engineers in Chelmsley Wood, Solihull enters an exciting new phase; a £1.1m grant has been confirmed from Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) towards state of the art, industry standard engineering and IT equipment. The Academy building work, which began in September this year, is well underway and on schedule for completion in July 2016.

University of Warwick Takes Part in One Big Thing

On Wednesday 21st October the University of Warwick took part in the One Big Thing initiative. It is designed to encourage individuals to participate in 30 minutes of physical activity at some point during the day, to promote the benefits of a healthier and more active lifestyle.


Ashmolean researchers team up with staff and student volunteers from University of Warwick to bring Roman history to life in Oxford

The Ashmolean Latin Inscriptions project, a collaborative project between the University of Warwick and the Ashmolean Centre for the Study of Ancient Documents is organising ‘The Walking Dead’, as part of the Ashmolean’s DEADFriday Event on 30th October 2015. The live event celebrates the installation of a new Roman columbarium (tomb) in the Ashmolean, with a real life Roman funeral procession showing visitors how it was originally used.

Department for Education figures reveal that in the 12 months to November 2014 almost 50,000 qualified teachers in England left the state sector. As the RSA Academies Teaching School Alliance launches its own initial teacher training scheme, the RSA in conjunction with the University of Warwick are gathering an expert panel to ask how we can ensure that teaching continues to be an attractive career choice that recruits and retains bright, creative and passionate people to the profession.

The Princess Royal visits campus to celebrate our 50th Anniversary

Her Royal Highness Princess Anne visited campus on Tuesday 6 October to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the awarding of our Royal Charter of Incorporation.

Princess Anne unveiled the foundation stone for the new Teaching and Learning Building, inscribed with a message celebrating our 50th Anniversary, before joining Vice-Chancellor, Nigel Thrift and key University figures including WMG Chairman, Lord Bhattacharyya and SU President, Isaac Leigh to hear about Warwick's development and current activities.

Public Festival of the Imagination marks 50 years of University of Warwick

To mark turning 50, the University will be holding the Festival of the Imagination on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October. Taking place at its central campus the festival will be the centrepiece of its 50th anniversary celebrations. A full programme of events open to the public focusing around the central theme 'Imagining the Future' will be staged to highlight the work conducted at Warwick.

Students donate 10 tonnes of unwanted food to local charities

Festival of Music - win tickets!

The Warwick Music Festival will be a three-day festival of music and entertainment in and around Warwick Arts Centre from 21 - 23 May 2015. Structured around three ticketed evening concerts in the Butterworth Hall, there will also be free music and events in other venues and outdoor spaces. The festival will include ticketed performances from the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra, Django Django and Joan Armatrading and will conclude with a firework display over the Piazza on Saturday 23 May.

Planting the seeds of a greener campus

On Friday 13th March and Saturday 14th March over 60 people attended the planting of the new Jam Grove outside the Centre of Lifelong Learning in Westwood. The Vice Chancellor planted the first tree then staff, students and local residents helped to plant various edible trees and shrubs including quince, plum, gooseberry and rhubarb.

The Times Cheltenham Science Festival

Warwick is delighted to be a principal partner of The Times Cheltenham Science Festival in our 50th anniversary year, to celebrate we have a host of exciting events between 2-7 June. Warwick is the first university to lend its support to all four of the Cheltenham Festivals. Tickets go on sale to Festival members on Weds 15 April, and to the public on Weds 22 April. ESRC Festival of Social Science 2015

The ESRC Festival of Social Science 2014 was a huge success with over 200 events across the UK. This year the Festival will be taking place from 7-14 November 2015. 560 Children to Visit the University of Warwick for day-long Classics Festival

560 school children from across the country will visit the University of Warwick on 27th January for a day of lectures, seminars and to watch a performance of Aristophanes’ Thesmophoriazusae. The event is the largest outreach and engagement event the University’s Classics Department has ever hosted and also included a public performance of the play on January 26th at the Warwick Arts Centre.

A new £22 million scheme involving over 200 higher education institutions and reaching 4,300 secondary schools and colleges aims to encourage more young people into higher education. Warwick is the lead institution for the National networks for collaborative outreach in the Coventry and Warwickshire area.

New free Warwick Gateway to PG course

The Warwick Gateway to PG is a brand new course starting in January 2015 which will prepare you for further taught postgraduate study at The University of Warwick. You will engage with a range of social science and humanities disciplines as you explore issues and concepts related to food. Study skills are embedded within each session and a range of different media are used each week.

Local Students Asked to Find their Inner Troubadour

To celebrate a new research project on the poetry of the Crusades, the University of Warwick is running a poetry writing competition, particularly aimed at school children. Headed up by Professor Linda Paterson of the University of Warwick, the new Anglo-Italian research project will open up the lyric poetry of the medieval troubadours and trouveres to its widest ever audience.

Exhibition aims to share social science in Coventry

Dozens of topical issues from the war in Syria and domestic abuse, to breast cancer and cybercrime are set to be covered at an exhibition by students from Warwick and Coventry universities this weekend. The showcase, at the city’s Herbert Art Gallery, is being held to promote the importance of social science research in helping to build a better society.

Winner of the 2010 Fields Medal for Maths, Professor Cedric Villani (University of Lyon), will give a lecture on the theories of John Forbes Nash, the American mathematician whose work on game theory won him the 1994 nobel prize - and whose work was brought to a wider audience by Russell Crowe in A Beautiful Mind.
