luxury heavily taxed? In which ways does this inform notions of greed, virtue and vice? Why is it sometimes forbidden by states (eg. Sumptuary laws) and other times promoted (eg. Royal manufactures)? What have been the key legal strategies to control the value of luxury and have they been successful? When is luxury undesirable? And when is it instead something economically desirable or even a resource? What can the law do today against illegal copies, fakes and smuggling? Full programme (PDF Document)
