Please join us for the first event in a series of Research Conversations between colleagues at the University of Warwick and the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Hosted by the Global Sustainable Development Department, these sessions bring together experts from each institution to discuss global challenges and topics related to the SDGs.
Interculturality in the Context of Higher Education: Multilingualism and the SDGs
Prof Bárbara Malveira Orfanò (UFMG)

Dr. Bárbara Malveira Orfanò is a Professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. She gained her PhD in Applied Linguistics from Mary Immaculate College/University of Limerick. Bárbara was a visiting scholar at King’s College London in 2021 and from 2018 to 2021, she served as Director of the Confucius Institute at UFMG and coordinated the Center for East Asian Studies. Currently, she is the Deputy Dean for International Affairs at UFMG, where she also teaches in the postgraduate program in Linguistic Studies and leads the Languages for Academic Purposes Center. Her research focuses on Applied Corpus Linguistics, Academic Discourse, and language teaching pedagogy within the context of internationalization, international education and interculturality.
