Our immersive learning

We are one of the most ‘hands-on’ departments in the country. Many of our classes take place in museums, manors, and in the streets of cities, enabling you to better understand art, material culture, and how and why they were made.

Our Venice term

Immerse yourself in the art world’s premier city, taking in Titian, Tintoretto, millennium-old buildings, or touring the most cutting-edge art and architecture at the Biennale. We’re the only programme in the UK to offer a whole term's study in Venice.

Our research

REF 2021 assessed 100% of all our research activity (outputs, impact, and environment) as “world-leading” or “internationally excellent”. We are the only History of Art department in the UK to have our research rated exclusively within these categories (REF 4* and 3*).
