About
Michael Rosenthal studied at the Courtauld Institute, and was Leverhulme Research Fellow at Jesus College, Cambridge, before arriving at Warwick. He held various fellowships in Australia and the US, and was lead curator of the Gainsborough exhibition at Tate Britain in 2002. His scholarship investigated the arts within British social and cultural histories, mainly of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. He had an abiding concern with landscape. His study of colonial art in Australia 1788-1840 will inform a book, A Roo with a View. He curated the exhibition of landscapes from the Tate's collection, Turner and Constable: sketching from Nature held at Compton Verney July-September 2013, which travelled to Turner Contemporary at Margate in October and then, in 2014, to the Laing in Newcastle.
Following his retirement in 2010 he was appointed as an Emeritus Professor in the Department.
