Kirby Hall, the construction of an Elizabethan Great House
Student Participants: Heather Beer, Roxanne Ravenhill and Ruth Walker
The URSS project for 2012 was to record the stonemasons' marks on Kirby Hall in Northants, the great house built from the 1570s and modified in the 1630s, that is in the care of English Heritage. This involved detailed examination of the all the dressed stonework of the walls, door and window frames of the building, and precise recording of the information in a computer-readable form. Fieldwork took place in July 2012, and was followed by archive work. I wrote the final report.
