Arts, Creativity and Homelessness

Since 2019, Professor Nadine Holdsworth has led on a number of projects and the generation of creative educational resources to engage and educate people around the topic of homelessness. This has included:
Homeless Monopoly -a Coventry-based game developed in collaboration with Jackie Calderwood, the Disruptive Media Learning Lab at Coventry and the homeless charity, Coventry Cyrenians. It explores the many reasons that people experience homelessness, the issues they face and the sources of support available.
Understanding Homelessness: a creative toolkit –an educational resource for use by school, youth groups, charities and the homeless sector that contains contextual information, questions to discuss, and a range of exercises to facilitate written, visual and drama-based responses to the issues explored. In 2023, a collaboration with the Don Calabria Institute in Rome resulted in a bespoke Italian version of the toolkit and in 2025, a collaboration with La Mie de Pain in Paris will generate a French version.
This body of work demonstrates the transformative potential of playful, collaborative and creative approaches to address the topic of homelessness.
