What is it about?

The Social Impact Assessment Training (SOCIAT) program, offered by the University of Warwick in 2025, is a dynamic initiative designed to empower professionals involved in nature protection and restoration projects. This training equips participants with the essential skills to assess the social outcomes of conservation efforts, enhance governance structures, and bolster public support for environmental initiatives. It's also tailored for individuals responsible for subcontracting social impact assessments, ensuring comprehensive understanding and application.

Comprehensive Understanding of SOCIAT

Participants will delve into the theoretical and methodological framework of SOCIAT, a tool that has been successfully applied in over 27 sites.

Participatory Framework

The training builds on a participatory approach, capturing community perceptions and concerns to ensure that conservation efforts align with local values and needs.

Flexible Applications

SOCIAT is versatile, suitable for all stages of protected area designation and other nature restoration projects, ensuring its applicability across various contexts.

Online training sessions

This training is designed for professionals involved in nature protection & restoration projects across the world. This training provides participants with the necessary skills to use a variety of tools to assess the social outcomes of conservation projects, improve governance, and identify ways to increase engagement and public support for conservation efforts.

Face to Face training

Our face to face training is held at the University of Warwick. The one day training provides practitioners and researchers with essential skills to apply a number of techniques capturing social impacts of conservation policies and nature's contribution to people. Techniques will include: participatory mapping, surveys and in-depth personal interviews.

On-site bespoke training

We’re offering in 2025 free bespoke, on-site training to a select number of projects across Europe, supporting you to carry out social impact assessments. If you're interested in taking part, please email fidelio@warwick.ac.uk with a short description of your project and your motivation for learning more about social impact assessments. Our team will travel to your project location to deliver tailored training focused on surveys and participatory mapping, all designed to help you assess the social outcomes of your conservation project.
