Reflective practice for the lovers of the passive voice

This workshop will explore reflective practice in the context of teaching, including an outline of what it is and why it can be beneficial to you as a teacher. Importantly, however, since the writing style of reflective practice can be quite different from academic writing, we will explore how, in practical and real terms, reflective practice can be done as a record and evidence of your teaching practice. This session will benefit those who are currently working towards an education or teaching and learning accreditation, including HEA fellowship, but are struggling with the reflective elements of these tasks or providing evidence of their practice through reflective writing pieces. Importantly, this workshop is aimed at beginner teachers who are not familiar with the process of reflective practice and would like to start embedding it in their teaching.

Nat Das Neves Rodrigues

Natércia Rodrigues was a postgraduate student at the University of Warwick from September 2014 to March 2018 under the supervision of Professor Vasilios Stavros. Her thesis focuses on obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the ultrafast photodynamics of sunscreen molecules in an effort to inform their rational molecular design towards optimised photoprotection. Throughout her postgraduate studies, Natércia was heavily involved with teaching undergraduate students and became an IATL Academic Fellow in August 2017 for the development of an undergraduate chemistry experiment based on her research. During her time as a PhD student Natércia also completed the APP PGR programme offered by the Learning and Development Centre and completed a Postgraduate Award in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. Now a member of the Learning and Development Centre team, Natércia is committed to engaging with the academic community at the University at Warwick to support good teaching practice and work towards establishing a vibrant teaching and learning community on campus.
