Transitions in Teaching and Learning

When we think about transitions in education, we usually think about the progression from one institution to another (e.g. school to university). This workshop will focus on the micro-transitions that occur throughout a lecture, a seminar or a workshop: the moments between moments, from greetings at the beginning to farewells at the end, from awkward silences to deliberate silences, from introducing the next learning outcome to getting into groups. In light of the fact that so much learning has moved online, the workshop will explore the ways in which Microsoft Teams can make previously seamless transitions clunky and clumsy, and examine ways educators might make such moments seamless and purposeful.
