Senior Fellowship (Advance HE)

Who is Senior Fellowship for?

Individuals applying for Senior Fellowship will be able to provide evidence of their effective and inclusive leading or influencing of those who teach and/or support high-quality learning. Their practice will be underpinned by their comprehensive understanding. They operate to support, guide and initiate change or lead/influence enhancement in a wide range of contexts. Typical roles and practice include:

  1. Staff with responsibility for leading, managing or organising programmes, subjects and/or disciplinary areas;
  2. Leadership and/or management of specific aspects of teaching and learning provision;
  3. Head of a support service area;
  4. Professional support areas where the central focus of their responsibility involves guidance and/or support for those who teach and/or support high-quality learning, for example as learning designers;
  5. Individuals recognised as very experienced and who are regularly consulted for their guidance and support;
  6. Influence or leading in relation to innovative practice as a key innovator.

About Senior Fellowship and the Professional Standards Framework (PSF) 2023

Senior Fellows play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing academic practice and higher education learning across diverse environments. Collaborating with colleagues, peers, mentees, and others, they support, guide, and drive change, as well as lead and influence improvements in practice in a wide range of contexts. Their effective contributions significantly enhance students' learning experiences in various ways. This fellowship acknowledges their ability to meet the standards outlined in PSF 2023 Descriptor 3.Senior Fellowship is suitable for individuals whose comprehensive understanding and effective practice provides a basis from which they lead or influence the learning and teaching practices of others (peers, colleagues, mentees, etc.) who teach and/or support high-quality learning.To be awarded Senior Fellowship, individuals must evidence that their effective and inclusive practice meets the following three Descriptor 3 criteria statements:

  • D3.1 a sustained record of leading or influencing the practice of those who teach and/or support high quality learning.
  • D3.2 practice that is effective, inclusive and integrates all Dimensions.
  • D3.3 practice that extends significantly beyond direct teaching and/or direct support for learning.
