Pre-conference keynote session

Exploring new and joyful relationships with assessment for staff and students, Dr Jan McArthur

We were delighted to welcome Jan McArthur to deliver our online pre-conference keynote session on Thursday 15th June 2023. This session, exclusive to us here at Warwick, allowed us to come together to explore how we might find new and joyful relationships with assessment. We will continue the conversations started here at the in-person event.

Empowering Students and Staff through Small Teaching

Join us for an uplifting and inspiring day of connections and conversations with students and staff from across the University. The programme has been developed to allow for many valuable opportunities to engage and connect as a community through a range of interactive sessions. A selection of short asynchronous nano-presentations to share and inspire practices will be shared with all conference delegates from Monday 19th June to Wednesday 21st June.

Student panel: bringing student and staff voices together

9.45am - 10.45am
Students in a lecture

This panel session will be created and led by our student colleagues. Students will share their perspectives on the small things that impact on learning experiences, engagement and sense of belonging here at Warwick. We will also touch upon AI! Don't miss this great opportunity for discussion and exploration together as a community.

Presentations

11am - 12.30pm

In these presentations, colleagues will share examples of their small teaching activities and initiatives. They may focus on:

  • Brief in-session or blended learning activities
  • Small interventions in a module, programme or extended learning experience
  • Small modifications in module or programme design, assessment or communication with students.

Lunch 12.30pm - 1.15pm
Time and space to refresh, chat and connect

Student lightning talks and smaller panel discussions

1.15pm - 2.15pm

This session provides an opportunity for students and staff to bring their voices together in smaller panel discussions. Students will be leading three discussion groups on the following topics:

  • Community building
  • Co-creation
  • Assessment and feedback

You can choose which discussion group to attend on the day of the conference.

Connections and conversations panel session

2.20pm - 3.15pm

Join our WATE (Warwick Awards for Teaching Excellence) community as they share practices and experiences in relation to three panel topics:

  • Building inclusive communities
  • Co-creation, e.g., with students, communities, etc.
  • Student support and wellbeing 

These panels will provide a space for colleagues to connect and discuss topics of shared interest. You can choose which panel to attend on the day of the conference

Student-led keynote debrief session

3.30pm - 4.15pm

In the final conference session, we will return to the pre-conference keynote session: Exploring new and joyful relationships with assessment for staff and students. Our student conference team will lead this debrief sharing their takeaway messages from Jan McArthur's session and inviting discussion together.
