Oliver is an Assistant Professor (Teaching and Learning) in the Academic Development Centre at the University of Warwick, where he leads the Academic and Professional Pathway for Postgraduate Researchers Who Teach (APP PGR) and contributes to the design and delivery of professional learning for educators across the institution.

Before joining Warwick, Oliver taught English in secondary schools for eight years and served as Head of English during a period of significant national curriculum reform. This background continues to shape his interest in curriculum, assessment, classroom practice, and educational transitions across sectors.

At Warwick, Oliver works with postgraduate researchers, early career academics, and academic departments across disciplines, supporting the development of reflective and effective teaching practices. He has particular interests in GTA development, the changing cultural and digital landscapes shaping student experience, and the relationship between teacher-led and student-centred pedagogies in higher education.

Oliver is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and a Fellow of the Warwick International Higher Education Academy (WIHEA). In 2024/25, he received a Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence (WATE) in the Community and Culture category. He also contributes to wider sector conversations through conference presentations, educational development networks, and writing on teaching and learning in higher education.

Alongside his work at Warwick, Oliver serves as a GCSE English Literature examiner for AQA and sits on the Advisory Committee for the Parliamentary Knowledge Foundation’s Youth & Education Scheme, contributing to the development of non-partisan learning programmes for MPs.
