Maria Evans
Maria Evans is an Associate Fellow of the CAPITAL Centre.
Maria Evans was Director of Education at the Royal Shakespeare Company from 2004-2008. She played a key role in the successful HEFCE bid that led to the creation of the CAPITAL Centre.
At the RSC she developed an education strategy which saw the company significantly increase their work in formal education. In particular, she led the company's campaign to improve Shakespeare in schools which culminated in the Stand up for Shakespeare manifesto.
Prior to 2004 she ran her own arts education company, arts4. She has also worked for the BBC, Cheek by Jowl, LAMDA, BECTa, the Open University, and as a teacher. She has an MA in Arts Management in Education.
Maria now works as a freelance consultant and project manager. On behalf of the RSC she is currently managing a government project to look at alternative ways of assessing Shakespeare at Key Stage 3.
