Process Defining Access Management
To simplify the operation of resources at CIM the below matrix outlines the permissions for each role across the various CIM systems. Where possible the permissions should be made by role.
Implementation
Access rights are controlled using various systems. The systems and rights may be controlled are details below.
Sitebuilder
Webgroups allow group based rights management. Webgroups are created and managed here. The naming convention for webgroup names is CIM - role. For instance, CIM - *professor can be used for associate, assistant and full Professors.
Permissions can be given on a website by website basis. However, this should be avoided except for personal pages. The reason for this is pragmatic - it reduces the workload and improves security.
Moodle
Webgroups can be used to apply permissions via the moodle admin interface here. Webgroups should be used where possible for easy management.
Permissions may be set via the Moodle web interface. Permissions across the department - such as viewing all of the modules - may be set by a CIM moodle manager at a category level here. If permissions must be assigned via the web interface - in the case of an external member of staff - then category level permissions are preferred where possible low maintainance.
Permissions are also imported from SITS during the Moodle roleover.
Tabula
Permission setting in Tabula is set by the Centre Administrator.
Permission Matrix
The permissions for each role are given below. A = Admin. W = Write. R = Read. NA = Not applicable. Applying these permission should be done for each service as outlined above.
