Keynote Invite Letter
Dear Professor
I am writing on behalf of the organising committee of the Young Researchers in Mathematics 2011 (YRM 2011) conference to invite you as a keynote speaker. The second YRM conference was held at the University of Cambridge earlier this year, and was organised by graduate students for a graduate student audience spanning the entire spectrum of mathematics, including both pure and applied mathematics and statistics. The feedback from the participants has been so overwhelmingly positive that it has become an annual event; next year the conference is moving to the University of Warwick, from 14th to 16th of April. The conference is divided into sessions according to different subject areas, each of which has one keynote talk, and we would be delighted if you would be willing to give one such talk in one of the sessions. Accommodation on campus at Warwick will be provided for all invited speakers, and we also have funds to reimburse you for travel costs. If you would like some indication of last year's programme, the details can all be found at http://www.youngresearchersinmaths.org/.
We very much hope that you will be able to take part and help continue the positive work started by the first two YRM conferences. Many thanks in advance for your consideration.
Yours sincerely,
David Holmes
Keynote Reminder
Not updated for 2011 (2010 version)
Draft second email to speakers who haven't responded (forward a copy of the original too):
Dear
I am writing on behalf of the organising committee of the Young Researchers in Mathematics 2011 (YRM 2011) conference about inviting you as a keynote speaker; we hope that you received our initial email (copied below) about this a few weeks ago, but apologies if this was not the case. We are now beginning to finalise the conference programme, and so it would be most helpful to us, if it is at all possible, if you could let us know by the New Year whether you will be able to accept our invitation. To remind you of the details, the conference will be held at the University of Cambridge, from 25th to 27th March and is divided into sessions according to different subject areas, each of which has one keynote talk, and we would be delighted if you would be willing to give one such talk in one of the sessions. Accommodation in one of the Cambridge Colleges will be provided for all invited speakers, and we also have funds to reimburse you for travel costs. More information is available on the conference website at http://www.youngresearchersinmaths.org/
We very much hope that you will be able to take part and help continue the positive work started by the first YRM conference last year. Many thanks in advance for your consideration.
Yours sincerely,
