Professor Ozlem Atikcan

I am Professor of Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick. My research examines how political ideas, discourse, and institutional contexts shape public policy and democratic governance in Europe and beyond. Drawing on political psychology, comparative politics, and international political economy, my work analyses how frames, narratives, and emotions influence decision-making in multilevel and transnational settings, including referendums, regulatory politics, and global governance. My research has been published in leading journals such as Political Psychology, European Journal of Political Research, Journal of Common Market Studies, and Journal of European Public Policy, as well as in books with Cambridge University Press and McGill-Queen’s University Press.

I am Principal Investigator of FRAMENET, a £1 million international project funded by the Open Research Area (ESRC, DFG, SSHRC), which studies the transnational diffusion of policy ideas in areas including human rights, migration, environmental protection, and artificial intelligence. I am also a Co-Investigator on the Horizon Europe project RED-SPINEL and a member of a Jean Monnet Network on Transatlantic Trade Politics.

As Director of the MGS DTP, I am committed to inclusive, interdisciplinary doctoral training, methodological innovation, and strong engagement with policy communities.
