After an initial academic career in the field of organisational behaviour at UEA and at Brunel University, Stuart worked for ten years in the private sector as a management trainer and consultant. Returning to the University of Cambridge in 1994 he taught at the newly-formed Judge Business School, before joining the University’s Programme for Industry first as a Senior Programme Manager and, in 2000, as Assistant Director of the department. In 2006, he left Cambridge to become Principal Lecturer and Academic Team Leader in the School of Lifelong Learning at Coventry University. Following the reorganisation of the School in 2007, Stuart returned to Cambridge to establish his own consultancy company, Barrett Reid Ltd.

 

His association with Warwick began in late 2007 when he took on the project management of Phase 3 of the eChina-UK Programme in the Centre for Applied Linguistics. In November 2008 he became an Associate Fellow of the Centre and continues to play an active role in the Global People team.

He has written and spoken extensively on issues of learning, partnership and professional development and, while at Cambridge, was co-founder of The Postgraduate Certificate in Cross-sector Partnership, the world’s first university-accredited course for international partnership managers. He is an Associate of The Partnering Initiative (a network backed by The Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum) and his company’s clients include the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education, the Judge Business School, the NHS Institute and the Cambridgeshire PCT. His current research interest focuses on how an understanding of learning can be used to enhance the effectiveness of collaborative working through both the creation of innovative learning processes and the effective evaluation of partnership activity.
