Enabling Effective Transition in History: Developing Guidance for Schools and HE

4 or 5 places remain for HE colleagues at this workshop to assess and develop guidance on the important issue of transition from school to HE study in history. If you have a particular interest or expertise that you would like to contribute to the discussions, please contact Lisa Lavender (L.A.Lavender.1@warwick.ac.uk ) to enquire about a place. The few places left will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Following the conference held in February 2009 on ‘History in Schools – Present and Future’, the History Subject Centre and Historical Association have been working together on a guidance document and workshop to progress the important issues of collaboration between schools and universities, and enhancing the transition process to HE.

We would like to invite you to a free workshop at the NCVO in London on Friday 11th June to join an equal mix of practitioners from schools and HEI’s in discussing the key issues of transition and how we can best support prospective students in their choice to study history at HE. In addition to brief focus talks from relevant experts, the day will largely comprise of group discussions to gain an understanding from delegates directly involved and interested, with a view to producing further guidance for the history community. Groups to discuss points raised by the speaker(s) on the abilities we expect of a good student, will a good A level student automatically make a good HE student, and what is an A*
