Health Research in Construction

    There is a mental health crisis in construction. The industry is characterised by challenges which are known risk factors for poor mental health, including job insecurity, high work pressure and poor work-life balance. In the UK, between 2011-2019, the number of deaths by suicide was highest in skilled and unskilled construction workers compared with other employment sectors, accounting for over 20% of all suicides by occupation (ONS, 2019).

    Warwick researchers (led by Dr Carla Toro from Warwick Medical School) are developing the evidence to tackle this crisis. Read more about our projects with National Grid and other industry stakeholders below.
