TIA Centre Presents at ECDP: The Poster Session
European Congress on Digital Pathology, Barcelona (26th - 28th June 2025)
The European Congress on Digital Pathology is the leading conference in the world for presenting the latest research in computational pathology. As computer scientists working in the field, we were therefore delighted to head to sunny Barcelona to both present our work and network with leading scientists and clinicians in the field.
This year, there were in total four poster presentations from the TIA Centre, showcasing the diverse work in computational pathology that is done, from identifying biomarkers in precancerous conditions and segmenting tissue structures in lung cancer, to predicting protein expression from histology. The poster presentations took place during the networking event of the first day, meaning that while we were discussing our work, we could enjoy a glass of Rioja or Cava, whilst nibbling on tapas of smoked salmon, potatas bravas and many more!
Below we give a snippet from each of the presenters on their experience at ECDP.
Adam: “ECDP is always a great venue to present your work in computational pathology. I particularly enjoyed presenting my work on laryngeal dysplasia during the networking event. I managed to meet many collaborators, that until then, had only been a face on a screen! I was also thrilled to be invited to present my work further at the ‘Best Poster Session’, where I was given the interesting task of presenting my slides in the Pecha Kucha style, which added an additional challenge but with a fun element.”

Behnaz: “It was really valuable to attend ECDP and meet so many people working in the same field face-to-face. Despite the heatwave bringing some extra warmth to the event, I really enjoyed presenting my poster on biomarker detection and classification. It was a great opportunity to engage with both industry experts and pathologists, and I had some insightful discussions during the poster session. I also got to catch up on the latest state-of-the-art methods in my area—leaving the conference both inspired and slightly sunburnt!”

Yijie: “This was my first time attending ECDP, and everything felt new and exciting. I presented an abstract poster about my ongoing project, and it was great to have the chance to share my work with both researchers and people from industry. Some of them asked really interesting questions and even offered ideas and suggestions, which gave me a lot of inspiration. It was a very encouraging experience.”

Following the poster session, we were able to enjoy the rest of the conference, attending talks, networking with fellow researchers, and soaking up the Catalan sunshine.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Cancer Research UK for supporting Adam, the MRC (MR/X011585/1) for supporting Behnaz, CSC-UoW scholarship for supporting Yijie.
