Highlights from TDP & AI, Edinburgh
The annual Transforming Digital Pathology (TDP) & AI conference was once again held in the beautiful city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Known for its historic charm we arrived a day early to explore this city. From peaceful walks through the picturesque Dean Village to visiting iconic landmarks like Edinburgh Castle and the Scott Monument, it was a great way to enjoy the city before the conference began.
The conference kicked off on Thursday and brought together experts from both clinical and computer science domains to explore the latest breakthroughs in Digital Pathology and the integration of AI into clinical diagnostics. A total of 16 invited speakers presented their work, with topics ranging from AI-driven molecular profiling to the use of foundation models. Of course we can’t forget Mostafa from our Centre who presented his ongoing work on mitosis.
Other speakers focused on how to integrate Digital Pathology into clinical workflows, covering everything from pathologist training to clinical studies demonstrating the benefits of digital over traditional methods, perhaps even persuading the most microscope-devoted pathologists.
The event also provided a fantastic opportunity to network with leading experts in the field. We exchanged ideas with fellow researchers and engaged in valuable conversations with clinicians, potentially paving the way for future collaborations. Additionally, the presence of major companies such as PAIGE and IBEX offered insights into the commercial side of Computational Pathology, something not commonly seen as a PhD student.
