TIA Centre Seminar Series: Reflecting on 2024/25 and Looking Ahead to 2025/26
The Tissue Image Analytics (TIA) Centre at the University of Warwick is proud to continue its flagship seminar series into the 2025/26 academic year. Now entering its fourth year, the series has become a vibrant platform for sharing cutting-edge research in computational pathology, multimodal AI, and related fields. Held twice monthly on Mondays from 2–3 pm, these sessions bring together a global community of researchers, clinicians, and students.
A Look Back: Highlights from the 2024/25 Seminar Series
The 2024/25 seminar series was defined by a strong focus on foundation models and their transformative potential in digital pathology and oncology. Across 19 seminars, we welcomed speakers from 5 countries, 17 institutions, and 7 US states, spanning Europe and North America.
This brings our cumulative total to 74 seminars hosted over the past four years, featuring speakers from 53 institutions, 13 countries, and 10 US states, across five continents.
Key highlights from last year included:
- Prof Azra Raza (Columbia University) opened the spring with a powerful talk on early cancer detection.
- Dr Jinxi Xiang (Stanford) and Dr Anurag Vaidya (Harvard) showcased vision–language and molecular-driven foundation models for precision oncology.
- Prof Jakob Kather (TU Dresden) and Prof Spyridon Bakas (Indiana University) explored AI agents and federated learning in real-world healthcare settings.
- Prof Asa Ben-Hur (Colorado State) introduced a supervised alternative to DNA language models in genomics.
- Prof Peter Boor (RWTH Aachen) addressed the ecological sustainability of AI in pathology.
- We also kept pace with the latest developments in foundation models, featuring talks on GigaPath, TITAN, CHIEF, MUSK, THREADS, BiomedParse, and large comparative studies.
Looking Ahead: Autumn 2025 and Beyond
The 2025/26 academic year will continue to spotlight multimodal AI, while also broadening our scope to include clinical perspectives and adjacent fields beyond computational pathology.
Confirmed speakers for Autumn 2025 include:
- Dr Nadieh Khalili (Radboud UMC) – Towards Multimodal AI for Personalized Cancer Treatment (13th October)
- Dr Tapabrata Chakraborty (UCL) – Personalised Predictions with Transparent AI on Multimodal Health Data (27th October)
- Dr Malte Kuel (Aarhus University Hospital) – Pathology-oriented Multiplexing for Disease Mapping (10th November)
- Dr Jana Lipkova (UC Irvine) – OCTOPATH: Multimodal AI for Oncology (17th November)
In the new year, we look forward to welcoming Prof Stefan Feuerriegel back for a talk on causal foundation models, continuing our exploration of explainability and robustness in AI.
How to Participate
These seminars offer a platform to learn from and interact with some of the leading minds in the field. If you are interested in attending or wish to present your research at a future seminar, please contact Dr Adam Shephard at adam.shephard@warwick.ac.uk.
