Nitrosamines are a threat to the everyday health due to the carcinogenic nature, linked to liver cancer. NAs are ingested daily but since 2018, nitrosated drug substance related impurities have become a major concern, resulting in recalls off the market. Low acceptable intake levels have made NAs a challenge to identify and growing complexity of NDSRIs with multiple nitrosation sites, increase the immediate need for reliable methods to identify the toxic byproducts.

One aim of my project is to apply tandem mass spectrometry techniques to understand and identify nitrosated drug substance related impurities. Developing workflows based on the accumulative results to streamline nitrosamine analysis for pharmaceutical relevance
