2023-24 WUSAT-4 Overview
In many ways, the composition of the 2023-25 WUSAT-4 team was indicative of how inclusive WUSAT could be. Not only did it consist of an excellent team of 4th Yr Engineering students, but Marieta Kysela also contributed important work in shaping suitable and necessary modifications to the classical methodology of Space Systems Engineering to produce a realistic working version that could be adopted by a university CubeSat team such as WUSAT. A simple tabled summary of this project outcome showing revised Phases, sub-Phases, Build Models and Review Stages can be accessed hereLink opens in a new window.
We also continued our long-standing links with the Warwick Aerospace SocietyLink opens in a new window by recruiting two of their members to act as Ground Segment sub-system members of WUSAT-4. They were simultaneously developing a ground station system for Warwick Aerospace, but by combining their efforts to make the ground station suitable for WUSAT-4 use they not only enhanced our team strength but benefited from our contacts in AMSAT-UKLink opens in a new window. They also personally benefitted from trips to Airbus and ESA training programmes, etc.
Overall, the 2023-24 team progressed WUSAT-4 considerably towards completion of Phase B with enhanced preliminary definition, a configuration model and a Preliminary Design Review with Airbus. The team's documentation (below) shows further development in WUSAT-4 Systems Engineering, Trajectory/Orientation Analysis, On-board Data Handling, Communications, Electrical Power Supply, Structure and Mechanisms and Thermal Modelling/Analysis.
