Past projects

Throughout it's history the UKVGB has been involved in numerous collaborative research projects. This page contains details of historic projects which the UKVGB has been involved in. Where possible, it also contains links to the data resources generated from projects, to ensure that these resources remain accessible for other researchers.

Allium

  • EU FAIR CT95-465 | Onion Quality Project | Tailoring the onion crop for the 21st century, the development of high quality fresh and processed onions. This project was centred on the evaluation of flavour and carbohydrates in onion using molecular genetics, biochemical analysis and marker assisted selection (project ended 28/02/2001). | Project dataLink opens in a new window
  • CEC GENRES | Allium project | 1996-2000 | This was coordinated by the Warwick Genetic Resources Unit with eight partners in seven countries: Denmark, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden & UK. The project targeted the collection, conservation, characterisation, documentation and evaluation of five Allium crops (onion, shallot, garlic, leek & chive) and wild taxa in EU countries.

Brassicas

  • EU project AIR3 - CT920463 | Brassica Project | 1993 | This project aimed to support the development of pest and disease resistant crops by identifying useful genes in germplasm collections of Brassica oleracea. Accessions were evaluated for resistance to cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae), downy mildew (Peronospora parasitica) and white blister (Albugo candida) | Project dataLink opens in a new window
  • CEC GENRES 109/112 | Brassica Project | 2000-2004 | This project was coordinated by CGN with the GRU acting as sub co-ordinator for the Brassica rapa group. Matching funds were from the Defra GC0123 Brassica genetic resources project. Accessions were characterised for a minimum set of descriptors, as well as subsets of accessions being evaluated for resistance to pests diseases including clubroot (Plasmodiophora brassicae), white blister (Albugo candida) and flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala) | Project dataLink opens in a new window
