MAT and STEP

Our Examinations
If you are applying to study any Undergraduate Mathematics course at the University of Warwick we ask many of our applicants to sit one of the following papers.
All papers are administered by Cambridge Assessment Admissions TestingLink opens in a new window (CAAT).
Mathematics Admissions Test
(MAT)
Set by Oxford University.
The Mathematics Admissions Test (MAT) is a subject-specific admissions test, lasting 2 hours and 30 minutes and sat under timed conditions.
The MAT is a hybrid test - with computer-based questions and a paper answer booklet. You will need to take this test at an authorised test centre which, in most cases, will be your school or college.
Sixth Term Examination Paper
(STEP)
Set by Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing.
Please note: From summer 2021 STEP 1 will no longer exist, only STEP 2 and STEP 3.
The test consists of up to two 3-hour paper-based examinations: STEP 2 and STEP 3. Candidates are usually required to sit either one or two of the examinations.
If STEP is part of the offer you receive from us then we are happy to accept either of these two STEP papers and you may attempt whichever you like.
