Kamran Pentland
Hello! I am a former student in the Mathsys II CDT having read for a PhD in Mathematics of Real-World Systems. I now work as a computational scientist at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy.
My research interests span mathematical models that involve multi-scale dynamics, stochastic processes, numerical integration, surrogate modelling, and high performance computing. Any problem that requires the use of a mathematical model is of interest to me!
More specifically, my PhD project, supervised by Dr. Massimiliano TamborrinoLink opens in a new window and Dr. Tim SullivanLink opens in a new window, is focused on the development of probabilistic time-parallel numerical integration algorithms. These algorithms have the potential to provide numerical speed up for a wide range of initial value problems in areas from climate modelling to space weather. Our focus is on developing new time-parallel algorithms that can quantitatively account for their own numerical uncertainty by using ideas from the field of probabilistic numerics.
