MRSA in Human Cells
Arnaud Kengmo Tchoupa
The image shows MRSA (in green) hiding inside a human cell (nuclei in blue and filaments in red). With the rise of antibiotic resistance in the vast majority of nasty bacteria, it is important to understand how their ability to hide within host cells works. These bacteria, shielded inside their host cells, are able to escape both conventional antibiotic treatment and host defence responses. This is thought to cause recurrent infections. Research to understand how the nasty bacteria hide in our cells will help us to develop new tools to find and kill them.
