Oral Exam

The final module exam will be a 20 minute oral interview between the student and 2 examiners. In addition the exams will be tape-recorded.

Students are asked to bring an A4 print-out of their poster (from the group exercise) to the exam to provide a starting point for questions. The aim of the questions is to test the progress the students have made during the module and to assess their overall competence in the material.

Students wishing to prepare themselves for the exam should practise interviewing each other in pairs. Try quizzing each other on the posters to start with. Then think of questions which test knowledge of the topics described in the module syllabus and expanded in the lectures, group work and practical class. Example questions on basic course content might be: 'Can you describe how proteins are made in a cell?', 'What are the principles by which DNA is replicated?' or 'Which proteins are found in the cytoskeleton?  What use is it put to in the cell?'

The examiners are all experienced in conducting oral examinations and will always try to put the students at their ease to encourage the best possible performance.
