Piscopia Committee at Warwick
We are the University of Warwick committee for the Piscopia Initiative! We run events targeted at women and other under-represented genders in the maths, statistics and computer science departments. We want to support and encourage undergraduates who want to continue into PhDs, and build a supportive and positive community for existing PhD students.
Sasha Glendinning - President
Sasha, (she/her)
I’m a first year PhD student on the Maths CDT at Warwick. My research is in opinion dynamics – modelling the evolution of opinions towards consensus or polarisation in social networks using a continuous framework. Outside of the maths department, I enjoy dog walks, good food and pub quizzes.
Luisa Estrada - Social organiser
Luisa, (she/her)
Hi there! I'm Luisa, a first-year PhD student in the MathSys CDT at Warwick. I am interested on the use of Artificial Intelligence for social good. My research focuses on multiagent systems and opinion dynamics on social networks, blending techniques from Game Theory, Graph Theory and Combinatorics.
You'll always find me with a cup of coffee in hand. And when I am not doing maths, chances are I'm swimming, climbing, or trying to convince my friends to play an unnecessarily complicated board game.
Poppy Azmi - Events
Poppy, (she/her)
I'm first year PhD student, interested in Geometric Group Theory and Hyperbolic Geometry. Before starting my PhD, I worked as an Operational Researcher at the UK Civil Service. I worked on Housing statistics and analysis, as well as Net Zero policy analysis.
Elliot Vincent - Secretary
Elliot, (they/them, he/him)
I'm a second year PhD student in the MathSys CDT at Warwick. I look at modelling the spread of diseases, in both wildlife and agriculture. In my free time I like to crochet, and I also read a lot of non-fiction books about history and science.

.About
The Piscopia Initiative is a network for women and under-represented genders in Mathematics and related disciplines. There are committees in several universities across the UK. Piscopia aims to create a space for both undergraduates and postgraduates, students and researchers, to find community and feel supported. We want to encourage women and other under-represented genders to continue study from undergraduate to PhD, and to support those who are currently in PhDs.
