Looking at Life with Electrons: Electron Microscopy in Life Sciences
The Advanced Bioimaging facility at the University of Warwick recently got a new scanning electron microscope! We’re excited to share the new ways we can tackle scientific challenges with you, so come and find out what is different about this microscope, and what scientific investigations we will use it for.
This event will give an introduction to microscopes, electrons and how they are used in biological research. We will discuss the different types of electron microscopes and what they are good for, why biological samples are difficult to look at with an electron microscope, and how we deal with that. We will also highlight some of the exciting medical research areas we will be able to move towards with the new equipment. This is aimed at anyone aged 14 or over who would like to learn more about microscopes, electrons and their use in biological sciences.
Doors open at 5:30pm and the talk will begin at 6:30pm. Please note the recommended age for this event is 14+. Please note booking is free but required. https://www.resonatefestival.co.uk/events/looking-at-life-with-electrons
Chemistry Work Experience
The Chemistry Department at the University of Warwick is offering a unique work experience placement opportunity for students (years 10, 11 and 12) from Coventry and Warwickshire schools. This work experience would suit individuals who are specifically looking to study Chemistry at the University of Warwick. The three-day programme will allow students to gain hands-on experience of working in a chemistry lab and provide an insight into studying at a top university as well.
