Postgraduate Certificate in Transferable Skills in Science (PGCTSS)

What is the PGCTSS?

The Postgraduate Certificate in Transferable Skills in Science (PGCTSS) is an accredited qualification designed to enable you:

  • to be a successful doctoral researcher undertaking world leading research
  • to improve your research effectiveness
  • to maximize your talents in your future career
  • to understand what you already know and how to use those skills to maximum effect.

Who is it for?

There are two separate courses within the PGCTSS, for PhD students and post doctoral researchers.

Applications are also welcome for the certificate or individual modules from other interested parties (fees may apply).

We currently have over 350 students working to achieve this certificate.

Is PGCTSS recognised outside of Warwick?

The Postgraduate Certificate in Transferable Skills in Science for Doctoral Researchers has been accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Royal Society of Biology and the Institute of Physics.

Our program maps onto Chartered Chemist, Chartered Biologist and Chartered Physicist status. You can find all the relevant information here.

PGCTSS and Researcher Development

Researcher Development is the central Researcher Development Programme. The skills offered by Researcher Development are more generic courses applicable to all students, rather than science based for Phd and post-docs. However, the two programmes can complement each other quite well.

If, for example, you were struggling with certain aspects of say Doctoral Skills 1, you could find an appropriate Researcher Development course that could help your understanding.
