Intelligent vehicles are set to transform the UK economy and we are considered the centre of excellence for connected and autonomous vehicle research. Our multidisciplinary approach, including cooperative driving systems, connectivity, human factors and verification and validation, enables a full understanding of the practical applications that will help shape the future of transport mobility.

Project Description

The aim of the project is to enhance the capabilities of the Catapult Open Innovation Vehicle PlatformLink opens in a new window to support sensor data collection during vehicle drives. Sensor data will include camera, LIDAR, RADAR, ultrasonics and GNSS. The project will involve elements of mechanical, electronics and software design, build and test. The project will allow the student to develop their knowledge in Connected and Autonomous Vehicles through direct hands on experience collecting and analysing state-of-the-art sensor data using the vehicle platform.

Required Skills

  • Self-motivated individual with excellent problem solving skills
  • Some hands-on experience working with electronics
  • At minimum, some experience in one programming language such as Python, C, C++, Matlab and willingness to further develop these skills.
  • Desired – some experience with source control management (e.g. Git, SVN)
  • Desired – some experience with working with large datasets
