The Challenge

There is a huge gap between the concept of sustainability and how it should be achieved in practice through supply chain management. The aim of this project was to create a framework that analyses sustainable supply chain management practices in the context of factors that affect them, including the strategic drivers, barriers and practices that are seen as necessary for achieving sustainability in any organisation.

The Outcome

The framework established four key ways of achieving aspects of sustainability that have previously been disconnected in literature. It allows organisations to map out their current situation in terms of sustainability, and draw out their drivers and barriers to adopt desired sustainability practices as required. More critically, the framework ensures that the organisations develop feedback loops to progress as the global environment and sustainability issues do.
