Dr James Burford Presents on Doctoral Inequalities at Midlands Innovation Graduate Schools Meeting

On 5th March 2025, Dr James Burford presented at the Midlands Innovation Graduate Schools Meeting, delivering a talk titled:

"Addressing Doctoral Inequalities: Making Change in Doctoral Admissions and Reasonable Adjustments/Mitigating Circumstances."

Dr Burford introduced the work of the Doctoral Education and Academia Research Centre (DEAR) and shared insights from key DEAR projects, including:

· The ‘Pre-Application Doctoral Communication’ and ‘Searching for a Supervisor’ projects – exploring doctoral application processes.www.warwick.ac.uk/PADC 

· The MADE project – examining policies and processes for reasonable adjustments and mitigating circumstances in doctoral education. www.warwick.ac.uk/MADE

He also outlined the next steps, which include disseminating research recommendations through reports, briefings, and scholarly outputs.
