Prof Henderson visit to Ali Mazrui Centre for Higher Education Studies, University of Johannesburg, South Africa, November 2025
On 10th November 2025, Prof Henderson visited the Ali Mazrui Centre for Higher Education Studies (AMCHES) at the University of Johannesburg, during a visit to South Africa. The visit was hosted by Dr Thandi Lewin, Associate Professor at AMCHES, who one of the Chairs of the Advisory Board of the DEAR Centre. The purpose of the visit was to move beyond the individual longstanding collaboration between Prof Henderson and Dr Lewin towards a centre-level collaboration. In addition to in-depth discussions between Prof Henderson and Dr Lewin in relation to future collaborations, the visit included a networking session with colleagues in AMCHES. In addition to Dr Lewin, the session was attended by Tendayi Dzinoreva, Post-Doctoral Fellow with a focus on ICT integration in teacher education; Fortunate Mugwaze, Post-Doctoral Fellow with a focus on human capital management in higher education; Sibonokuhle Ndlovu, Senior Lecturer with a focus on disability, gender and higher education; Kirstin Wilmot, Senior Lecturer with a focus on doctoral education and supervision. Following a round of introductions, the discussion included questions relation to research funding, academic networks, doctoral admissions and the potential for Prof Henderson’s research on higher education outreach to be implemented in Zimbabwe. Thanks were expressed on both sides for the rich discussion.
