On Friday the 4^th of April the DEAR Centre held its first writing retreat which brought together members and affiliates of the centre. DEAR writing retreats are an ongoing activity hosted by the Centre which aim to make the work of writing visible and less of a lonely enterprise. While research is always about communication, so often we can feel isolated during the writing process, which often happens behind closed doors. Our DEAR Centre writing retreats create intentional environments where we value and make public the labour of writing. The retreats create opportunities for researchers of all career stages to share more about their writing processes and puzzles. Collectively, the writers at the retreat undertook preparatory reading, wrote sections of doctoral work and advanced manuscripts for publication. Importantly, we learned more about each other’s projects and cheered each other on as we each made progress. The next writing retreat is scheduled for July where we’ll turn up to the page once again.
