DEAR Centre and SELCS Research Culture Session on Applying for a Doctoral Degree
On 23 July 2026 an online session was delivered by DEAR Centre Directors Emily Henderson and James Burford, with James also presenting in his roles as SELCS Co-Director of Research Culture. The session was for SELCS academic staff members who are considering applying for a doctoral degree, in view of the recent announcement of the SELCS scholarship scheme. Given the DEAR Centre expertise in researching PhD admissions, the session was offered to support colleagues in deciding whether to apply for a doctoral degree and how to go about selecting a topic and approaching a supervisor. Attendees noted they appreciated the session, found it informative and specifically appreciated the expertise in this area that was brought to the session by the facilitators from the DEAR Centre.
