DEAR at the Warwick PGR Education Studies Conference 2025: Reimagining Education for an Inclusive Future
The 2025 Warwick PGR Conference, themed “Reimagining Education in a Changing World: Inclusive Education for a Global and Interdisciplinary Future,” brought together postgraduate researchers to explore how education can respond to complex global challenges.
The Doctoral Education and Academia Research Centre (DEAR) had a strong presence across panels, presentations, and conference organisation.
DEAR Doctoral Presenters included:
- Milena Cuccurullo – Re-imagining Teaching Quality through Philosophy
- Denisse Alejandra Lillo Sierra – Being in Two Places at Once: Fieldwork Experiences of a Longitudinal Study Across Two Different Settings
- Nok Hang (Alice) Hui – UK Supervisors’ Roles in Doctoral Student Selection
- Susan Deeb – Doctoral Education in Conflict-Affected Contexts: A Critical Review of Literature
- S. Arokia Mary – Demystifying Doctoral Academic Socialisation: Transformation of Individual(s) or Institution(s)?
- Rui Zhang – Exploring Mentor-Mentee Dynamics in a Changing Academic Landscape
Conference organisation also featured DEAR doctoral researchers:
- Evan Zheng served as Conference Co-Chair
- Susan Deeb and S. Arokia Mary were part of the Organising Committee
The conference concluded with a stimulating plenary panel discussion on “The Evolving Nature of Education Research,”. Professor Emily F. Henderson, Director of DEAR, offered critical reflections on the future of education research in response to global shifts, sharing insights from her interdisciplinary work on doctoral education and academic cultures. The panel was chaired by Dr. James Burford, Co-Director of DEAR, who facilitated a lively and engaging discussion on how education research should evolve to meet societal needs.
