Affiliate Focus: Jess Moody – a new DEAR Affiliate

The Centre is steadily growing its Affiliate community with submissions from around the UK and globally from a variety of academic and research-based backgrounds. We asked new DEAR Affiliate Jess Moody why they applied to be a DEAR Affiliate.

Jess (she/they) is currently a Doctoral Researcher at Loughborough University having spent twenty years working and studying in higher education, both from ‘within’ universities, as well as working as a sector-level advisor. Jess is interested in critical approaches to the study of HE equity work, and understanding differential student experience. In particular, what can be learnt about inequity, identity and power in the messy areas where policy meets practice?

As a mid-career Doctoral Researcher, Jess also worked on the project 'Mitigation and Adjustment in Doctoral Education' ('MADE'). MADE was one of the DEAR Centre’s first projects looking at ‘gaps’ in policy, understandings, and experiences around mitigating circumstances and/or disability adjustments. As Jess continues to work on their own research on the care-ethics and traumas of EDI work in HE, they joined DEAR as an Affiliate to stay connected to this important critical community which seeks to understand HE through multidisciplinary perspectives, and innovative research methods.
