Abstract:

For this in-person & online seminar, co-hosted by the Doctoral Education and Academia Research Centre (DEAR) and the Education Studies Department, we will welcome Professor Bruce Macfarlane from The Education University of Hong Kong, who will speak on "The ethics and micro-politics of co-authorship: how ECAs cope with a crony economy" and Evan Zheng, our very own PGR, who will speak on "Mediating Merit: Ethics in Co-Producing Higher Education Applications with Education Agents".

About Professor Bruce Macfarlane

Professor Bruce Macfarlane is Chair Professor of Educational Leadership and Dean of the Faculty of Education and Human Development at The Education University of Hong Kong. He is a former Head of the School of Education at the University of Bristol, and a former Associate Dean in the Faculty of Education at the University of Hong Kong. He has held visiting professorial positions in Australia, Japan, South Africa and Sweden.

Professor Macfarlane is a social philosopher of higher education who has developed conceptual frameworks for interpreting academic practice, ethics, and leadership. Applying a mix of empirical and philosophical enquiry, he has helped to define key concepts including academic integrity, academic citizenship, intellectual leadership, and student performativity.

 

About the Evan Zheng

Evan is a third year PhD candidate in the Education Studies department at the University of Warwick, funded by the Chancellor’s International Scholarship. Her research focuses on doctoral education and international student mobility. Before joining Warwick, Evan held various roles in China’s international education sector.
