Writing Opportunities

Writing is a key practice for all doctoral students and academics: it is a key means by which we make and disseminate knowledge. Despite this reality, writing is often an academic practice that is backgrounded and hidden from public view. Within the DEAR Centre we are interested in the academic work of writing, and we see writing development as a key vehicle for advancing Centre work. Our strategy is to create opportunities for colleagues to come into community as academic writers, and in so doing to make the labour of academic writing more visible. Since 2025, the Doctoral Education and Academia Research Centre has convened writing retreats to provide a dedicated and structured space for those associated with the Centre to focus on their writing projects in a supportive environment. Participants can work on any type of writing, whether drafting, revising, or refining, with the flexibility to tailor the day to their specific needs. Please watch out for announcements for upcoming writing activity on our webpage.
