CES Postgraduate Conference 2018
Warwick’s Centre for Education Studies (CES) held another successful Education Postgraduate Conference on 5/5/2018. The conference hosted 85 delegates from various UK universities. Over 25 postgraduate students from the University of Leicester, Durham, Exeter, Bristol, Coventry, Bedfordshire, Wolverhampton, Newcastle, UCL and Goldsmith (London) and various departments from Warwick presented their novel research projects to the audience. The conference opened with the Chair, Humeyra Guleryuz Erken’s welcome speech and Associate Professor Michael Wyness’ speech on issues of inequality in education. Keynote Speaker, Professor Geoff Lindsay delivered his speech on ethics, ethical codes and reminded the delegates about historical and recent cases of unethical conduct in research that have impacted on many individuals' well-being and rights. He also interacted with the audience answering their questions.
The conference’s Best Abstract was awarded to Krystal Douglas (CES, Warwick) for her presentation on Widening Participation in HE – an abstract that concisely presented a well-designed methodology and directly addressed the conference topic of inequality. The Best Poster was won by Emrah Ozyurek’s (Durham University) poster on Virtuousity amongst teachers, covering factors that enable virtuousity in the teaching practice.
In the Conference Question and Answer Panel, Associate Professors Emily Henderson, Mick Hammond, Michael Wyness and CES' doctoral graduate Abdulla Sodiq answered many of the audience’s questions about inequality in education and research.
