Creative Writing Success: GCSE Resit Student Featured in Local Press
As part of a suite of research and impact/engagement projects focusing on GCSE Maths and English resits, a team from Education Studies (Becky Morris, Debbie Grace and Tom Perry) ran a creative writing competition for post-16 resit students. The competition was funded as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Sciences and ESRC Impact Accelerator Account grant.
This week we learned that one of the winners from the creative writing competition was featured in the local press. The competition received over 200 entries, with six overall prize winners (from Middlesborough College, Dudley College, Solihull College and Scarborough TEC). We enjoyed a lively celebration event for the competition on 8th November, with wonderful contributions from Jas Gardosi (Birmingham Poet Laureate) and Aamani Kanda (Young Coventry Poet Laureate).
Becky and Tom’s research on post-16 resits continues with their ongoing national trial of tutoring for GCSE Resit learners, their contribution to a review of Professional Development in the post-16 sector, and their involvement in the EEF’s Post-16 Advisory Group They will be presenting their work at the upcoming Association of Colleges English and Maths Conference in London in February, and at the British Educational Research Association Conference at the University of Sussex in September.
