Dr Emma Williams (Associate Professor, Education Studies) has been awarded a British Academy/Leverhulme grant to examine the perceived mental health crisis in young people, and whether philosophy can help to promote wider understandings of mental health in schools. Her project will result in a series of podcasts that examine concepts such as ‘anxiety’ and ‘perfectionism’ using philosophical perspectives.

Williams’ research will develop the ideas of the American philosopher Stanley Cavell (1926-2018), who proposed a conception of philosophy as the ‘education of grownups.’ Her 18-month project will commence in March 2020. A series of interdisciplinary workshops for researchers working at the intersections of education, therapy and philosophy will be running at Warwick.
