Our Education Studies Values

Our Education Studies Values

Education Studies at the University of Warwick has a proud history of excellence, and we are excited about what the future holds.

The University of Warwick community has articulated Our Values, which represent the ways we work together to deliver the university’s strategy and ambitions.

In Education Studies these values matter to us – they describe who we are and how we want to be when we’re at our best. Read on to learn more about our values and how we put our values into action.

Going forward and further

In Education Studies we are ambitious and aspirational. We have a holistic view of education. We take the initiative and make positive change happen.

Values in action:

  • Our research activity is a fantastic example of how we go forward and further.
  • Our researchers conduct ambitious and innovative research, work within our vibrant Education Studies research culture and ensure that our teaching and research are meaningfully connected.

Thinking freely

In Education Studies we create safe and inclusive educative spaces in which staff and students can think freely. We innovate and challenge the status quo in a spirit of generosity.

Values in action:

  • We have embedded thinking freely into our teaching activity – through the pedagogical approaches we select, the forms of assessment we use, and the choices students have open to them to pursue their own ideas and interests

Thriving on difference

In Education Studies, we pride ourselves on our culture of diversity and hold students at the centre of all we do. We take an intersectional approach to understanding difference, and understand that there are visible and invisible differences, including differences in experiences, expertise and ways of thinking. We have multi-, inter- and trans-disciplinary research expertise that feeds into high quality teaching.

Values in action:

  • We embody this value through ongoing reflection and action on Education Studies’ equity diversity and inclusion (EDI) practices, effective pastoral support and widening participation initiatives.

Creating Connections

In Education Studies we build connections and partnerships. We recognise the challenges to sustaining this work but we hold fast to the commitment to overcome barriers, co-create and build a community.

Values in action:

  • We create connections by investing in connections with communities, practitioners, industry and other partners at the local, national, and international levels.

Sharing opportunities

In Education Studies we empower and supportively challenge everyone in our community to flourish and make a difference, on their own terms, for the benefit of individuals, institutions and wider society.

Values in action:

  • We share opportunities by offering community events, student conferences, co-creation work, newsletters and peer mentoring.
