CJC Member Dr. Laura Lammasniemi was recently announced as a winner of the prestigious British Science Association (BSA) Lecture Award Series for 2021. Laura was recognised as the winner for social sciences based on her work 'Sexual Consent -Looking back at the law'. There were seven awardees across a number of disciplines who represent Early Career Researchers based in the UK who have displayed cutting edge work and committed public engagement.

The seven awardees will be present at a special Q + A event during the British Science Festival at the Chelmsford campus of Anglia Ruskin University in September where they will delve into their research and its real-world implications.

A conference titled "Being There: Ethnography and the Study of Policing" is scheduled to be held on 18-19 January 2018 at the University of Liverpool. There is one free place to giveaway for this conference. The organizers have very generously donated a free place specifically for a BSC member. Organised by the Police Ethnography Research Collaboration with the International Criminological Research Unit, this will be an opportunity for dialogue about the value of ethnographic approaches for enhancing our understanding of policing. The 2018 British Society of Criminology annual conference will be held in Birmingham, UK. Hosted by Birmingham City University the conference will take place on 3-6 July 2018. This year, the theme of the conference is "Transforming Criminology: Rethinking Crime in a Changing World". Save the date!

CJC colleagues Professor Jackie Hodgson & Solange Mouthaan are this week collaborating with Monash University, teaching on their summer school programme in Prato, Italy. Jackie is leading sessions on European criminal justice and human rights, focusing on the development of procedural protections for criminal suspects. Solange is leading sessions on International criminal justice, focusing on gender and victims. Dr. Asher Flynn (Monash), who has worked with Jackie and other CJC colleagues on a number of projects, is coordinating the 'human rights in the criminal justice sphere' programme, which runs over several weeks.
