Ethics in the Financial Sector: A Risk Management Perspective - Dr Catherine Arias Barrera, Universidad Externado de Colombia, Bogota
Abstract
The project studies the role that conduct of business rules, part of the risk-based approach to regulation, might have in the work against financial sector corrupt practices. The new era of fighting corruption is driving companies to change their behaviour to adapt to the efficient management of financial risks and related reputational risk. At the same time, the grey areas, including facilitation payments, travel expenses and entertainment, and retention of third party agents add to the regulatory burden associated with the fight against corruption. Although there has been some progress, managers and regulators recognise that their programs should do more to prevent and detect corruption. Major financial institutions are proving that an effective program against corruption must continually assess risks and strategies involving regulators and regulated entities.
