EASG Current Affairs Refresh: Impacts and Implications of the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party

Last week was the anniversary of the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, the most significant event in the Chinese political calendar which decides policy and membership of the Chinese government for the next 5 years. In this talk, will be exploring the different impacts and implications of the 20th National Congress to understand its relevance for China and the broader region.

The speaker will be Justin Ren. Justin is a third-year PhD student at Department of Politics and International Studies under the supervision of Shaun Breslin and Chris Hughes. Prior to his doctoral studies, he earned a Master’s degree at George Washington University in Washington D.C. where he studied under the guidance of David Shambaugh and Mike Mochizuki. His PhD research centers on a comprehensive investigation of Chinese official and academic nationalist discourse, spanning the years from 2007 to 2022.
